Susan's Story

My husband just donated his 6th unit of blood today and I just wanted to share our story to urge people to please make time to donate and to say a huge "THANK YOU" to all those A negative people out there who donated over the last couple of months as you have helped to save my life!

Our beautiful baby daughter was born on 09/09/09... and what a 999 it was. She came 9 weeks early following a huge bleed. With this bleed controlled with lots of blood transfusions, I had another huge Post Partum Haemorrhage a couple of hours later and woke up in ICU in James’s. I had 36 units of blood in total, 32 red blood cells and 4 platelets. I didn't get to meet my baby girl until 9 days later! But Thank God I did get to meet her and I have all those 36 people to thank for donating their blood and for saving my life!

I will be forever grateful to each and every one of you. I never donated blood myself, always meant to, but "never got round to it". Now that I have been on the other side of the fence, I wish that I did donate and assist in saving someone’s life. My Husband is adamant to give back the 36 units of blood that I received back. So 6 units down and 30 to go! So thank you once again for saving my life so I can enjoy my beautiful family, I am truly grateful to you all.
