Negative Blood Types in the Red

The Blood Transfusion Service has issued an urgent request for People with O negative, A negative, B negative and AB negative to come forward and donate blood.

While stocks of the positive blood types are healthy, stocks of all the negative blood types have dropped in recent weeks. "In the run-up to Christmas, this is not a good position to be in as there will be demand from hospitals for all blood types but in particular O negative throughout the holiday season. Patients will still require blood for cancer treatment, for surgery and for accidents right throughout the festive period. It is not good enough to say ‘we have no blood because we have no donors in this, the season of goodwill."

People can give blood tomorrow in the Dublin Donor Clinic on D’Olier St., St. Finbarrs in Cork and next week in Carlow, Kilkenny, Dundalk, Bandon, Birr, Cork and Dublin and other venues. Please call 1850 7311137 or visit www.ibts.ie for further details.

Blood Donated today will be available for hospitals next Wednesday.
