World Blood Donor Day

World Blood donor day 2023 - June 14th!

Every year on the 14th of June we celebrate World Blood Donor Day and thank our donors for giving blood, platelets and bone marrow to help save lives. The theme for 2023 is  “Give blood, share life, share often” which focuses on patients requiring life-long transfusion support and underlines the role every single person can play, by giving valuable blood.

We take the time to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood and also to raise awareness of the need for regular blood donations.

This year, to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation we have taken over the homepages of Her.ie and Joe.ie for World Blood Donor day. Her.ie have featured the story of a giveblood supporter who received blood transfusions during childbirth, she explains why blood donors mean so much to her and her family.

Local GAA clubs in Cork have also gotten involved and are helping to raise awareness on 14th June by giving blood at a clinic in Páirc uí Chaoimh

How you can support World Blood Donor Day

Give Blood

If you are eligible to donate blood, why not dedicate an hour of your time to this life-saving act. The actual blood donation only take a few minutes and once you are finished you can enjoy some refreshments.

Spread the word

If you can’t donate blood or don’t have the time, you can really make an impact by spreading the word about the importance of giving blood. Encourage your friends, family and colleagues to give blood. Many people are not aware of how easy the process is and so spreading the word in your local community really helps.
