It's About Making a Difference
Laura leads a busy life but never regrets the time she makes to give blood regularly. It can be a bit daunting at first, and it’s easy to be put off by a fear of needles, but the staff at the clinic are there to put donors at ease. It can be a good idea for a first time donor to attend with a friend or a regular donor.
Laura has seen the lifesaving impact receiving blood can have through family experience and through her work, and feels that if more people understood how crucial blood is for treating cancer patients, cardiac illnesses, young babies and accident victims of all ages, people wouldn’t hesitate to give blood.

Blood facts:
- The average age of blood donors is 40.6 years old and rising. We need more young people to get involved in giving blood to ensure hospitals needs are met
- We know that new donors are inspired to attend a clinic when they see local posters advertising their local clinic, social media shares from friends and local groups, and word of mouth from existing donors who are family and friends
- Every clinic needs a team of local volunteer organisers to help IBTS promote local clinics every few months – if like many people you aren’t eligible to give blood, think about becoming a local volunteer
